Restoring Windows partition after incompatibility issues with McAfee GroupShield Exchange

Have you recently installed McAfee GroupShield Exchange 5.0 for MS Exchange 2000 Server? If yes, are you facing intermittent problems when you start your computer? The reason behind this is that this application version often exhibits conflicts with Windows 2000 Server due to compatibility issues, which at times affects the partition of the system drive. In such scenarios, you should use appropriate methods in place to repair the corrupted partition to recover partition. However, in case you do not succeed in doing so then you should use a third-party partition recovery software to recover Windows partition.

For instance, when you start your Windows 2000 Server system it fails to start. An error message is displayed, that is:

“Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

winnt_root\System32\Ntoskrnl.exe

Please re-install a copy of the above file.”

Cause:
There could be the following reasons for such erroneous behavior:
You have installed McAfee GroupShield Exchange 5.0 for MS Exchange 2000 Server on your system. The problem can occur due to incompatibility issues with the operating system.
At times, the AutoUpdate procedure can fail that can corrupt the Windows 2000 boot.ini file.

Resolution:
To overcome this issue, you should repair Windows startup environment and install the McAfee GroundShield Exchange field patch. This can be done by performing the following steps:
Create a Windows 2000 boot disk containing the following system files:
Ntldr
Ntdetect.com
Boot.ini
Ntbootdd.sys
Alter the Boot.ini file so that it references the proper hard disk controller and volume.
Now, use this boot disk to restart your computer.
Copy the Boot.ini and the Ntbootdd.sys files from the disk to the system partition to the local had disk.
Now, you can download and install the field patch for McAfee GroupShield Exchange from McAfee.

If the problem is not solved then you should reformat the hard disks and reinstall the operating system. However, for that you need to backup the valuable data. This is where the third-party partition recovery tools come in the picture. Such Windows partition recovery tools are extremely safe to use and do not modify the existing data one little bit.

One of the most powerful partition recovery tools is Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery, which recovers Windows partition from inaccessible file systems. Supporting FAT, NTFS, and exT file systems, this partition recovery software retrieves more than 185 file types. Competent enough to do email recovery from MS Outlook and Outlook Express, this partition recovery tool is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, Server 2003, XP, and 2000.
